About Union

Located in north-central Iowa in the southeast corner of the Prairie Pothole Region, Union Slough is all that remains of a pre-glacial riverbed. Actually, the area is a connection point, or union, between two watersheds - the Blue Earth River of Minnesota and the east fork of the Des Moines River. All ramps are free to use. Ramp surfaces include 3 paved concrete ramps suitable for larger motorized vessels, 2 carry-in launches for kayaks and canoes. 1 ramp is ADA accessible, and 5 have designated parking (5 with trailer parking). Ramps are managed by DNR Division of Parks and Trails, Polk County.
